A general dentist for over 30 years, Dr. Fortin opened the Centre d’implantologie dentaire de Québec in 1992 and, since then, has devoted his practice exclusively to dental implantology. He opened a second Centre in Montreal in 2002. From 1979 to 1992, a large part of his general practice was devoted to orthodontics and prosthodontics, which contributed to forging his overall vision of implantology. The goal of implantology, which is not a speciality, is to give teeth back to patients. It combines three disciplines: dental surgery, periodontics (handling of soft tissues), and prosthodontics (dental restorations). Dr. Fortin has the necessary expertise and knowledge in these three disciplines to perform a wide variety of dental implant treatments. An internationally recognized association, the AAID (American Association of Implant Dentistry) recommends that its members, whether general dentists or specialists, take training courses or provide proof of various levels of knowledge, expertise, and skill in order to be certified for the three AAID levels of recognition, which are, in increasing order, Associate Fellow, Fellow, and, lastly, Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology and Dentistry. A certain time is required to obtain all these certifications. It took Dr. Fortin five years of effort to obtain the highest level of certification.

He also relies on the invaluable cooperation of two essential people who ensure that everything runs like clockwork at the Centre: Mary de Torres, Director of the Quebec City and Montreal clinics, and Alain Daoust, Centre Coordinator.

Mary de Torres, Clinic Director
With over 20 years of experience in the dental field, Mary is key to ensuring the Centre’s clinics run smoothly. She is thorough, proactive, professional, and committed to patient satisfaction, and the knowledge she has acquired over the years makes her a key resource person for all our operations. Mary’s warm and welcoming approach with patients, the harmonious atmosphere she has created among staff members, and her personal touch with the referring dentists are an essential ingredient in the Centre’s success.
Alain Daoust, Centre Coordinator
Alain has worked for many years in the field of dental implantology, including for a number of implant manufacturers. He has been the spokesperson for Dr. Fortin and the Centre d’Implantologie dentaire de Québec since 2008. He is widely respected in the industry for his leadership and expertise.
One of his many tasks is to liaise with referring dentists. By assisting them, guiding them, and training them in the use of components designed to improve the well-being and comfort of patients, he plays a key role in the success of the treatment plans of each and every one of them.
Michael McKnight, Special Projects Manager
After a career spanning over 25 years in the medical and dental health field, Michael joined the Centre d’implantologie dentaire de Québec at its inception in 1992 as coordinator and liaison officer in charge of ensuring good relations between Dr. Yvan Fortin and the referring dentists. He has been closely involved in all the steps in the development of the Centre d’Implantologie dentaire clinics in Quebec City and Montreal.
Well-known in the dental community for his expertise in implantology, he has contributed to organizing seminars both here in Quebec and on the international scene for general practice dentists and skilled dental specialists from around the globe.
He became Special Projects Manager in 2008 and has been in charge of a number of assignments directly related to the smooth functioning of the Centre.
